Nearly 1 in 3 Teens Sext, Study Says. Is This Cause for Worry?

Trinette Reed / Getty Images Nearly 1 in 3 teens has sent a nude picture of him or herself to someone else, and more than half have been asked to do so, according to new research on nearly 1,000 Texas teens. The study, published Monday in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, also found that teen “sexting” is strongly linked to actual sexual behavior. About 77% of girls aged 14 to 19 who had sent a sext reported having had intercourse, compared with 42% of those who hadn’t sexted.

Netflix's One Day Is an Irresistible Romance

A lot happens in the first two decades of adulthood. We learn to live on our own and pay our own bills and build our careers. We dodge or succumb to temptations, accountable first and foremost to ourselves. We sign leases and maybe, eventually, take on mortgages. For many, love leads to marriage or, at least, cohabitation. We measure our convictions and ideals against hard-won experience. We have kids or, for a million different valid reasons, don’t.

According to  Blac Chyna’s lawyer,  Lisa Bloom, who tweeted about the issue revealed that it is a crime to release an explicit content without the consent of the person involved. “Revenge porn -- posting explicit images without the consent of everyone in those images -- is a crime, a civil wrong, and a form of domestic abuse. PALESTINE: In the Hills of Hebron

TIME February 2, 1948 12:00 AM GMT-5 The picture was reminiscent of the terrible black & white mass of photographs that had illustrated the war and the war-crimes trials. It showed the mutilated bodies of 35 young Haganah fighters who had been ambushed by Arabs at Kfar Etzion, in the lonely hills of Hebron. Last week, during a lull in the Palestine fighting, an armored bus under heavy escort headed south from Jerusalem on a mournful errand; it carried the mothers & fathers of the 35 dead to their funeral.

Sexting in Middle School Leads to More Adolescent Sex, Study Says

Younger students are no different than their older peers when it comes to sexting, a new study reports. More high school students are sending and receiving sexually explicit text messages or photos, and that makes them more likely to engage in other types of sexual activity as well. Now researchers say the same trends are trickling down to younger students in middle school. A new study published in the journal Pediatrics found that a significant number of adolescents between ages 12 and 14 sext, and that these children are more likely to kiss, have oral sex or sexual intercourse than their counterparts who did not send such explicit messages.

Sleep-Monitoring Apps and Beds Should Keep You Up At Night

Your bed could be watching you. OK, so not with a camera. At least not yet. But if you have any of a variety of “smart beds,” mattress pads or sleep apps, it knows when you go to sleep. It knows when you toss and turn. It may even be able to tell when you’re having sex. Sleep Number, one company that makes beds that can track heart rate, respiration and movement, says it collects more than 8 billion biometric data points every night, gathered each second and sent via an app through the internet to the company’s servers.

Taiwan's Election Leader William Lai on China, Trade, and More

More than once when William Lai was a small boy, a passing typhoon blew the roof of his home clean away. It’s a recollection that brings a wry smile to Taiwan’s vice president, who grew up in the small coalmining hamlet of Wanli perched on the island’s far north. Lai’s father died in an accident in the pits when he was just 2 years old, leaving his mother to raise six children alone.
