Philando Castile: Video Shows Minnesota Shooting Aftermath

Police shot and killed a Minnesota man Wednesday evening following a traffic stop in an incident that drew protests in the state’s capitol and parallels to other fatal shootings of black men including a shooting in Louisiana earlier this week. A female passenger streamed the aftermath of the incident on Facebook Live showing Philando Castile, 32, bloodied in the driver’s seat and a police officer with his gun still visible through the window.

Portraits of Ukraine's Wartime Mothers

On Sunday, Ukraine will mark its second Mother’s Day since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. For many families, the day will be less of a celebration than a reminder of what war has wrought: death, destruction, and separated families. For the Ukrainian women who became mothers during the war, it is all they have ever known. Olena Mokhonko, an obstetrician at a maternity hospital in Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine, has helped deliver as many as 70 babies a month since the war began last year.

Ranking Emily in Paris's Craziest Fashion Looks

The French fashion designer and style icon Ines de la Fressange once said, “Style should be effortless—don’t overthink it.” It’s a maxim that encapsulates the louche cool that French style has come to represent. It does not, however, describe the outrageous fashion choices of Emily Cooper, the enthusiastic heroine of Netflix’s Emily in Paris.  Throughout the series, which dropped its fourth season this week, Emily wears over-the-top, technicolor ensembles that are less “French girl chic” than they are Funny Face (another tale of a sartorially adventurous American girl in Paris).

The 10 Best Theater Performances of 2019

Don’t turn to the theater for escapism this year. On the New York stage, theater artists tackled many of America’s most painful, persistent wounds: income inequality, racism and the lasting trauma of slavery, civil disobedience, the aftermath of the AIDS crisis. Not to mention a comedy about the gaping flaws in the country’s foundational document, the Constitution. It was a thought-provoking, compelling year, a civics lesson for the ages, embraced by audiences hungry to engage in the most pressing issues of our time.

The Story Behind 'Frida,' A New Frida Kahlo Documentary

The early 1940s self-portraits of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo that show monkeys wrapped around her neck may seem playful on the surface. In reality, Kahlo painted them during a suffocating period of her life when she was tangled in a messy divorce and desperate for work. Frida, a new documentary produced by TIME Studios out in select theaters on March 7, explores how Kahlo endured several personal tragedies and fueled her experience into her art, creating the vibrant surrealist paintings and self-portraits that made her an iconic artist.

Women are allowed to choose one of 14 styles; married women are instructed to keep their tresses short, while the single ladies are allowed let loose with longer, curlier locks.

This 100-Year Old Sex Therapist Says We're Too Busy to Have Good Sex

She was born before the invention of the stop sign, but sex therapist Shirley Zussman has some thoughts on ‘hooking up.’ “I don’t think it’s as frantic as casual sex was in the sixties,” she says, noting that modern ‘hooking up’ isn’t as exciting without the context of a sexual revolution. Besides, she adds: “In the long run, sexual pleasure is just one part of what men and women want from each other.
